A Big Congratulations and Welcome to Emil Botes who is the new Secretary of SACC San Diego! 

In the summer of 2023, Emil Botes moved from Stockholm to San Diego to pursue his goal of working in decarbonization and living in the United States. Following the footsteps of the early European settlers, he passed through Ellis Island and finally found his call in Sunny California.

Emil’s background is in Swedish politics. He studied Political Science at Stockholm University and started his career working for the political leadership at the time in Region Stockholm. It was during this time that he discovered his desire to work more directly with decarbonization, seeking hands-on impact rather than policy work. After having completed some work with Sweco, a Swedish consultancy firm, he decided to relocate to California.

Since late 2023, Emil has served as Vice President of Open Doors Management, a land origination company for renewable energy and industrial development. Open Doors connects landowners with energy developers to launch renewable projects like solar farms, wind farms, and energy storage. 

As a member of the Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce in San Diego, Open Doors stands ready to find locations in the United States for Swedish and other European companies that wish to enter the largest economy in the world. With significant undeveloped land and billions of dollars allocated under the Inflation Reduction Act, Emil welcomes Swedish businesses considering U.S. expansion to reach out to the Chamber.
