My Time at SACC San Diego

At the end of 2023, I received a last-minute call from the Swedish American Chamber of Commerce asking if I could step in to help during a period when they faced unexpected intern shortages in San Diego. Already residing in the city for five years, initially as an au pair and later as a student at SDSU, it was a perfect fit for me to join their team.

Over the next six months, I took on the role of Business Development & Life Science and Marketing Management Associate. My responsibilities were diverse and enriching. I assisted in organizing and executing various events, managing our corporate members, and enhancing the services we offered them. A significant part of my role was dedicated to marketing, which included managing our social media channels and revamping our website. Additionally, I was responsible for contacting speakers and sponsors for our webinars, developing our life science and renewable energy sectors, and strengthening our connections with American companies.

Supporting the Board of Directors was an important aspect of my role. Each month, we provided updates on our budget, membership status, events, marketing activities, and emerging business opportunities. This regular communication ensured that the board was always informed and able to make strategic decisions. I was also part of the Life Science Committee, working alongside specific board members to develop and enhance the ways we connected Swedish life science companies with those in San Diego. This involved creating new opportunities for collaboration and growth in the industry. Lastly, I also attended monthly board member meetings with the Swedish Center, which is an umbrella organization that connects various Swedish entities including SWEA, SACC, House of Sweden, the Swedish Church, and the Swedish School in San Diego. This involvement allowed me to collaborate closely with these organizations and contribute to the broader Swedish community in San Diego.

One of my most valuable takeaways from this experience has been learning the complexities of running an organization and facilitating business interactions between Europe and the U.S. The opportunity to connect with a wide audience and expand my network has been incredibly rewarding. I love meeting new people, and this role has opened up incredible doors for me.

My time at the Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce was not just a professional milestone but also a personal growth journey. The skills and connections I gained have been invaluable, and I am beyond grateful for the experience. Next up, my goal is to stay in San Diego and continue working with the people I have met throughout my journey with SACC. I am excited to welcome our new interns and continue attending networking events and business mixers to stay connected with the Swedish Community in San Diego.

Thank you for an amazing time at the Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce in San Diego!
