An international symposium on nanotechnology, featuring leading research
experts and inventors, will be presented by the UCSD NanoTumor Center
and held at the Goldberg Auditorium. This event is organized in partnership
with the UCSD NanoEngineering Department and NanoTecNexus.
The symposium gathers experts from France, Mexico and throughout the
United States to discuss pioneering approaches employing high-resolution
DMA (Differential Mobility Analyzer). The DMA is a physical detection and
capture method that can be applied to many virus species, particles and ions
in the environment, as well as oncology patients, and as an early detection
system for at-risk populations. The availability of physical methods for rapid,
reliable, and complete detection of nano-particles opens up a new era in
early detection of disease and environmental threats.

SACC Annual Golf & Networking Event 2009
This year’s Golf Tournament was held at The Vineyard in Escondido on May 8th. The sun was shining and it was a perfect day for Golf! Six teams consisting of 24 enthusiastic players were lined up next to their golf carts when the tournament kick off announcement was made at 1 o’clock. The teams present were IKEA, Hilton, Biosite and three “unnamed” teams who all were given less flattering golf term names by the SACC crew – Hazards, Hackers and Slicers.
Around 5 o’clock the teams were returning to the head quarters after an intense day of competition and fun out in the sun. Some cold beverages were served and the non-golfing guests joined us before we sat down to enjoy the dinner buffet. Towards the end of the meal it was time for the prize ceremony, which was held by Magnus Gunnarsson – President of SACC.
It was a close competition, especially for third place, since two teams ended up with the exact same score of 67 – IKEA and Hackers – but IKEA won third place by scoring better at the most difficult hole. However, since Hackers were playing with a team member new to the sport, their performance was quite impressive. Biosite ended up with a score of 63 and secured second place after a great performance. The 2009 Tournament winner, with an unbeatable score of 61, was Hilton who received the prestigious SACC prize trophy as well as a gift basket donated by IKEA.
Two smaller competitions were held during the event – “Longest Drive” and “Closest to the Pin” and the proud winners were Johan Carlsson – IKEA and Matt Oborne – Hilton.
